Kris Klayton aka Karizma/Kaytronik grew up DJing local fashion shows and college parties before landing an opportunity with a popular Baltimore City affiliate of National Public Radio, WEAA. Alongside notable Charm City artists DJ Spen, Scottie B and Shawn Caesar of Unruly Records he helped curate a weekend underground dance music show on V103FM. Original productions and remixes line the decades of his career with releases on Unruly Records, Jasper Street Company, Basement Boys Records, Code Red Recordings, West End Records, Nervous Records, 83 West, Wave, Strictly Rhythm, Brownwood Recordings, NRK Sound Division, Z Records, Resident Advisor, Fall Out Records, Hustle Music, Raw Fusion, Objektivity, Defected, Fool’s Gold, Vega Records, Ninja Tune, Southern Fried Records, Yoruba Records, Stereo Sushi and R2 Records where is serves as the A&R Manager. There is an unmistakable edge to Karizma productions, one that is firmly rooted in the unique experience of growing up in a North Avenue neighborhood of Baltimore City. He distributed a white label record entitled “Twyst This” to a few contacts overseas in 2006 including Gilles Peterson of BBC Radio 1 who charted the track at #14 on his program that year. The release of his first solo album “A Mind of Its Own” gained Karizma a global following of music enthusiasts voting him among the Best DJ’s of 2007 by XLR8R Magazine. Sponsored by Pioneer DJ in 2010 he toured Japan showcasing innovative techniques utilizing their popular CD-J. By 2014 his contribution to the underground dance music industry was recognized when Pete Tong entered Karizma into his “Hall of Fame” on BBC Radio 1. Local recognition that is dear to him as an artist include being named a “Hometown Hero” in 2010 from the Baltimore City Paper and a “Maryland Master” in 2015 from the Maryland State Arts Council’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program. Hard at work in the Kohesive Lab, he released his second solo album “A Mind of Its Own 2.0” in 2009. Staying relevant in an ever-changing industry was the theme for his third solo album “Wall of Sound” released in 2013 revealing a more emotional side of his house moniker. His 4th release entitled “Kaytronik: Thee Album” features the politically driven singles #StateWeIN and #HOLY accompanied by digital media produced by the Jade Anvil Collective and avant-garde filmmaker Capsaicin (John Tyson) of Washington, D.C. These two singles take a sharp look at the Baltimore uprising in 2015 and the birth of the nationwide #BlackLivesMatter movement following the death of Baltimore resident Freddie Carlos Gray, Jr.
